Garden Mission: To create an outdoor learning environment for Sylvan Park students that will provide organically grown produce for educational and nutritional uses.
Seeds have been bought and we hope to procure donations of starter plants from area farmers and greenhouses. We are in need of fund raising to further meet the mission of this garden.
Expenses include ($250):
-
Wood for raised beds
-
Soil
Future expenses:
-
Landscape fabric
-
Gutters for the shed
-
Rainbarrels
-
Garden hose
-
Landscape fabric
-
Organic soil amendments
-
Organic pest control options
-
Netting for trellised crops
In the near future it would be great to have a Sylvan Park Family Potluck for those interested in the garden to generate ideas and energy around this project.
We are looking for parent volunteers to participate in a Garden Club from 3-4 on a weekly basis one day a week. This would be an opportunity for kids to do a project in the garden and would also provide some upkeep for the garden. We are also exploring options for faculty involvement as well. The future is rich with opportunity for developing classroom curriculum and possibly a school wide Paideia project around the garden. Right now our priority is laying a new infrastructure for future growth. This includes the building of new beds and soil amendments.
Thank you for your support. We are very excited about growing food at Sylvan Park!!
