We are kicking off the second semester with our third school-wide seminar! All students will participate in a seminar using the book What the Road Said by Cleo Wade between January 9th-20th. During this seminar, students will discuss the ideas and values of leadership, grace, compassion, adaptability, and perseverance. Our post-seminar writing activity will ask students to give advice on how they would handle different circumstances and questions expressed in the book. Ask your child about this exciting and engaging learning experience.

Sylvan Park Elementary’s Spring Running Club starts the week of January 30th and meets one day a week (days offered will be Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday) from 3pm-4pm.
|
This club is designed to encourage a passion for running with additional tips and training by volunteer coaches and parent volunteers.
|
Parents will be encouraged to volunteer at least one time during the semester.
|
This club meets on school grounds and dismisses directly from school to the club. Proper running shoes and weather appropriate clothes are required. This is an outdoor club and may be cancelled on days of inclement weather.
|
Sign ups are this Wednesday, January 18th 7:30a.m.-8:00a.m at the Front Entry of school.
|
Payment via check to “Sylvan Park Elementary PTO” or Paypal required at time of sign up (Scholarships are available).

*Marathon Kids Call for coaches!*

Marathon Kids requires two coaches per day to make this possible. We are in need of another coach for Tuesday and Thursday Marathon kids!
|
No expert running experience required… Simply a joy to encourage running!
|
Responsibilities include organizing children after school from 3-4:30 in the Marathon Kids running club and delegating tasks to parent volunteers.
|

Our annual Diversity Night returns in person on February 9 with a focus on neurodiversity! Childcare (and a pizza dinner for the kids) will be provided at no cost. More details are coming soon, but you can go ahead and sign up for childcare here.

Share your Panther Pride with incoming families! Help Community Relations by giving school tours to prospective families.
|
|
Tours typically happen Tuesdays at 9am. 1 hour time commitment per tour. Training will be provided. Contact Ruth Butler, ruthabutler@gmail.com, for more information.

The Sylvan Park PTO is hosting our annual Valentine’s Day Candy Grams fundraiser. All proceeds will be donated to teachers for classroom use.
Candy Grams are $1. There is no limit to how many you may buy for friends. They will be handed out on Valentine’s Day.
|
There are 3 ways you can purchase Candy Grams:
1. Your homeroom teacher will send home a sheet of Candy Grams with instructions if you’d like to fill them out at home and return the sheet and money to your teacher.
|
2. We will email all parents a copy of the Candy Grams printable with instructions. Just print, fill out, and return them with money to your teacher.
|
|
3. Candy Grams will also be collected out front of school on Thursday February 9th and Friday February 10th. The 10th will be the last day to purchase.
|

Submissions for the newsletter: please submit any school-related news, photos or announcements by each Sunday at noon in order to get it in the following Tuesday's newsletter. Images and PDFs should be converted to JPG or PNG format.
