Show Your Panther Pride on August 4th!

Show your panther pride this Tuesday, August 4th on social media! Post a back-to-school picture of your student in their panther gear. You can tag Sylvan Park PTO on Facebook and Instagram and use the hashtag #sylvanparkbacktoschool2020.

We can't wait to see all the familiar faces from our school community!

MNPS Parent Playbook for the First Week of School

What can I expect this first week of school? Your teacher will be contacting you to get to know you better. Whether it be whole class or 1:1 sessions, keep an eye out for communication from your homeroom teacher.

Additionally, schedules are posted in the Playbook for students to engage in optional, nonacademic activities during the first week of school. Students can participate if they are not otherwise engaged in a conflicting school-based activity at the same time. Schedules are in the 'First Few Weeks of School' section of the Parent Playbook here: https://www.mnps.org/first-weeks-of-school-elem

MNPS Student-Parent Online 2020-2021 Handbook

IMPORTANT: The permissions from parents/guardians that are included with the handbook will now be collected online, making it easier for families and schools to indicate and track. The due date is September 4, 2020. With school starting virtually and devices and hotspots provided by the district, all families should have the resources to submit their permissions online.

Home Room Parents Needed

Are you looking for a rewarding way to be involved at Sylvan Park? The PTO needs a Home Room Parent (HRP) for each classroom. HRPs are a tradition at Sylvan Park.
A parent(s) serves as a liaison between teachers, parents, and the PTO board. This role typically involves organizing classroom parties (around 3-4 per year,) as well as creating an email group for your classroom parents in order to forward important information that needs distribution.

As you might guess, this year our HRPs' responsibilities might look a little different. HRPs will serve to create a much needed sense of community between classroom families during this time when we all need it. As specific parent or teacher needs arise, the HRP will be able to facilitate communication so we may all find the answers and help we need.

Please email Natalie Goldsby, Head Home Room Parent, at ntgoldsby@gmail.com if interested.

Sylvan Park Elementary Master Schedule for All Grade Levels

To help parents plan their day during virtual learning, the school has released the Master Schedule for all grade levels. All classes within the grade level will follow the same schedule, which officially begins the week of August 10th. Teachers will communicate any face-to-face instructions for the week of August 4th directly with families.

Sylvan Park Facebook Parent Group

Fellow Sylvan Park parents have created a private Facebook group for parents and caregivers to discuss navigating virtual schooling. This group is not affiliated with the PTO. It was created as an informal place for parents to make connections while distanced due to COVID and school facility closures. See the link to join.
