Related Arts Activities Available!

The Sylvan Park Music website will now host all of your Related Arts classes for at-home fun and activities. New material will be added every Monday while school is out from Ms. Williams in Art, Mr. Burns in Music, Coach Scott in P.E., and Sra. Poole in Spanish. Each class will have engaging activities the whole family can enjoy. You will also have opportunities to share your work or fun with your related arts teachers and possibly get featured on the website. In addition, Mr. Burns is requesting singalong videos and suggestions for reaction videos almost daily. You can keep up with the fun and updates by following on Twitter: twitter.com/sylvanparkmusic or visiting the website: www.sylvanparkmusic.org.

4th Grade Civil War Study

At the beginning of the month, Mrs. Eberle’s 4th grade class enjoyed a Traveling Trunk from The Tennessee State Museum. The trunk’s theme was “The Life of a Civil War Soldier.” Students had fun looking at replica artifacts from this time period. Pictured here are students dressed as Union soldiers.

MNPS Support for Students

Breakfast and lunch pick-up: Services will continue every weekday that schools are closed and will be available to anyone under the age of 18. No MNPS paperwork is required, however, students must be present to collect meals, per federal law. The bagged or boxed meals will be provided in a drive-through setup and will be  available for pickup between 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. at these locations.

Delivery meals: Six MNPS school buses are delivering to locations throughout Nashville where students are able to pick up the meals. The routes, including locations and approximate times, are available here.

Free books and school supplies: Book’em will offer free books and the PENCIL foundation will offer free school supplies to students at rotating sites where meals are being provided. The distribution schedule for both is here

Coronavirus Update from MNPS

As of March 22, 2020:

With the safety of our students and staff continuing to be our top priority, schools will remain closed through at least Friday, April 3, in response to the public health emergency COVID-19. Mayor John Cooper today announced the “Safer at Home” public health order, which closes non-essential businesses and requires residents to stay inside their homes unless they are engaged in certain “essential activities,” effective Monday, March 23.

District leadership continues to meet daily to monitor the situation. Families can always reach the Family Information Center at: familyinfo@mnps.org.

Most recent updates include:

  • All employees should work remotely, as possible, through at least Friday, April 3.
  • School-based employees will generally not report to school during this period and may work from home unless otherwise needed. Access to the facilities will be limited during this time.
  • All events (field trips, extra-curriculars, etc.) through Friday, April 3, have been canceled, including TSSAA games. Events after Friday, April 3, will be reevaluated in the coming days.
  • All before- and after-school programs are canceled until further notice.
  • Third-quarter grading and report cards have been postponed until further notice.
  • Read more updates in our newsroom.

Panthers Around Town

From bringing donations to tornado victims to getting out in nature, Sylvan Park panthers are making the most of an unusual Spring.

Lost and Found

The Lost & Found is now located outside the music room.

Resources for Learning at Home

MNPS is curating learning resources in one location for students to continue learning at home. The resources are posted at https://www.mnps.org/digitaltools. The site includes information about getting free internet access through certain service provides. Be sure to read the district’s blog with additional activities that are creative and also free! If students need help logging in to any of their school accounts, or resetting their password, call the MNPS Help Desk: 615-269-5956.

School closure

As you all will have heard, Sylvan Park school is closed along with all MNPS schools until at least April 3.

Unfortunately, this means that Latin American Night (scheduled for March 26) has been cancelled.

Thank You Volunteers

Sincere gratitude to everyone who contributed to the call to action at Park Avenue on Friday! Below are photos of donations and an after picture of what your efforts helped make possible for our neighbors.
