Fall Harvest from School Garden!

Our students did an awesome job of harvesting sweet potatoes from the school garden! We thank Ms. Brown for guiding this activity.

Checking Your Student’s Progress in Schoology

Today marks the mid-point of the 2nd Quarter. This year, Progress Reports will not be mailed home, unless the student currently has a D or F in a course. Parents can check their student’s progress in Schoology. Last night, Ms. Goetz hosted a meeting explaining how parents can use Schoology to check their student’s grades. You can view the recording of the meeting or download a pdf of instructions from the District. (You must sign into an MNPS account to view the pdf.) You can also watch the district’s video called “Staying Informed: Checking Your Student’s Progress in Schoology.”

Virtual Afterschool Programs

The MNPS Virtual Afterschool Clubs are free and voluntary classes that children and teens can take to learn a wide variety of standards and skills. They are designed to be enriching and fun, and they range from reading to coding to preparing a child for college to learning sign language. Participants can join at any time and access as many clubs as they wish daily.

AfterSchool Enrichment Solutions is also offering several virtual classes for a fee. Classes are beginning this week and run through mid-December. More information can be found at https://www.afterschoolenrichmentsolutions.com/

Mr. C’s Football Reading Challenge

There’s still time to complete your Mr. C’s Reading Challenge! Your panther can log any independent reading done from October 19-December 7th on Beanstack to earn virtual badges and help our school win a cookie party from Tiff’s Treats. Once they have logged 180 minutes, they will have completed the challenge! In addition, Ms. Calverley is holding a drawing from all “finishers” every week to win a free book or poster. Find the Beanstack app in Clever to log your minutes. Here’s a video if you need help!

33,235 Minutes Read!

Congrats to Sylvan Park students for 33,235 minutes of reading between August and October in the “I Believe in Nashville” reading challenge! As a district, we achieved our goal of one million minutes read! Thank you for promoting literacy and shout out to Ms. Calverly on her leadership and all that she does to inspire kids to read.

UniCycle Fall School Clothing Drive Saturday, November 7

Schedule a mini Fall cleanout and gather your student’s outgrown SSA and other schoolwear- we’re hosting a socially distant donation drive!  We’re accepting donations on Saturday, Nov. 7 from 11am – 2pm in the Sylvan Park parking lot to fill our school closet and to collect items for UniCycle, the program that supplies school uniform items to closets throughout MNPS and direct to students in the Homeless Education Resource Office program. Grab your mask and drive on through!

We’ll take your collared shirts, khaki, navy, and black pants, shorts, skirts and dresses, leggings, Sylvan Park and WEMS spirit wear, and jeans of all sizes. We are also accepting jeans, joggers, t-shirts, and hoodies in middle and high school sizes for the West End Middle School closet and other non-SSA middle and high schools throughout MNPS.

You can drive through the parking lot to donate! Remember to wear a mask and toss items into the collection basket from six feet away! Volunteers will be onsite so that you don’t even have to get out of your car if that is your preference.

Thank you for your support – UniCycle distributed 20,000 items of school clothing last year to MNPS students and runs on volunteer power and your donations!
