4th Grade Play Practice Begins

Sylvan Park Fourth Graders will be presenting The Lion King for our musical this year!  Play practices start this week with our Introduction to Musical Theater on Tuesday, October 15th from 3-5pm.  Any 4th grade student interested in being part of this year’s production should attend.

Teachers Courtney Hobgood, Keisha Williams and Margaret Williams participated in TPAC Disney Musicals in Schools Professional Development in September. (Amy Eberle not pictured.)

Bring Painted Pumpkins to Library

It’s October and the library is again hosting its annual Book Character Pumpkin Patch! Students and teachers are invited to display a pumpkin decorated as a beloved book character to celebrate fall. Please bring in a painted or otherwise decorated pumpkin. To avoid mold and other grossness, carved pumpkins are not accepted.

Box Tops Due Oct. 22

NOW is the time to turn in the Box Tops you have been clipping for Sylvan Park. Please turn in all box tops by Oct. 22 to the front office in a bag labeled with the number of box tops inside. Make sure the expiration date is after Nov. 1 in order for the school to receive credit.

Box Tops for Education going digital. A new app allows you to scan (take a picture of) your grocery receipt and give direct credit to your school. Download the Apple app or the Google Play app to ditch the scissors and get started. Products participating will have this non-snippable logo:

As an incentive to get people converted to the new scanning method, from now until November 15, all receipts scanned into the app with box tops on them enter our school into a contest toward a $20,000 school makeover.

For the first time this year, Sylvan Park is planning on holding a WHOLE SCHOOL competition with Eakin Elementary and West End Middle. The school with the MOST earnings by May 15 will win a whole school incentive.

4th Grade Engineering Unit

To wrap up the 4th grade Science Engineering Unit, Jack O’Neil, a mechanical engineer of IC Thomasson, came to speak to Mrs. Eberle’s class. Jack shared the plans of his current project with the students. This was a great opportunity for the students to see the “real world application” of what they had learned in the classroom.

Teacher Appreciation Breakfast

Teacher Appreciation celebrated the teachers and staff by hosting a breakfast that included bagels and pastries from Star Bagel. The group also provided coffee, juice, casseroles and quiches. It was another fun way to say thank you for everything they do.

West End Musicians

Sixth grade band students from West End Middle School performed outside Sylvan Park Oct. 3 before the Prospective Parent Coffee for Sylvan Park parents with administrators from West End. All students, led by Madeline Mara, attended Sylvan Park!

Trunk or Treat at HHS

Families from all Hillsboro cluster schools are invited to dress up and get treats at Hillsboro’s Prospective Family Open House and Trunk or Treat on Tuesday, Oct. 29. Academies, clubs, teams and other groups will hand out treats and showcase the opportunities available at Hillsboro High School.
