Pick Up Passes: turn in 5/23/24

SP pickup cards

A quick heads up that we will be collecting all (all means all 😉 ) pick up passes on the last day of school (5/23). We plan to recycle them so, know that you will get them back next year with a new grade level sticker. Even if you have a 5th grader, or are not returning next year for any reason, please turn in all of your pickup passes.

These passes are expensive, so it is important that we collect as many of the passes as possible (check under you couch cushions, in between your car seats, get the pass back from grandma/pa etc.).

5/23/24, 11:30a dismissal, there will be a collection bin out front at walkers and one in the back for car riders.

Again, 5/23 please turn in all pick up passes. Thanks!

It’s Not Too Late To Purchase a Yearbook

Yearbook

If you purchased a Sylvan Park 23-24 yearbook already, our bulk order has been placed with Treering.

Treering does still offer a link to order (https://www.treering.com/purchase?PassCode=1015257004414640 ). If the order is placed now then the yearbook will be shipped to your house rather than to the school in the main order.

Our Treering “Passcode” is: 1015257004414640

Add Your Voice: Should High School Start Later?

alarm clock

We are a caring group of parents from various MNPS clusters who want to revive the conversation and action around starting Nashville Public High Schools later. We have the earliest high school start times in the nation. Most high schools in Nashville open their doors at 6:45am and start school at 7:05am.

There is a vast amount of research that shows that teenage mental and physical health, grades, sleep quality, learning ability, attendance, and even behavior improve when high schools start later.

We have created this survey to get a sense of what other parents feel about this issue. We plan on sharing the results of this informal survey with the school board later this spring.

Thank you for taking a few minutes to tell us what you think, and whether you would like to join this initiative.

Thanks to everyone who came out to support Parnassus, SP Elementary, and the joy of Reading!

Parnassus Books

Thank you to everyone who joined us in supporting Sylvan Park Elementary while indulging in the joy of reading. Your contributions help make a difference for our school, and we are truly grateful for your generosity.

From 3-6pm on April 20, 2024, the Sylvan Park PTO received 10% of all sales made at Parnassus Books. Whether you were searching for books for your kiddos, yourself, or some amazing signed editions for gifts, it was the perfect time to visit. We hope you took advantage of this opportunity, and we extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated. Your support means the world to us!

Parnassus Books, located in Green Hills, is an independent bookstore beloved by our community. Founded in 2011 by novelist Ann Patchett and her business partner, Karen Hayes, Parnassus offers an extensive and exciting selection of books, including fiction, non-fiction, children’s literature, local interests, and the arts. We hope you found some wonderful reads to enjoy.
